I really like Mike Huckabee. He’s funny and entertaining…but what I heard from him and the rest of the GOP today really torques me off. Huckabee was on Fox and Friends talking about SC governor Mark Sanford. He said Sanford’s affair was his personal business and shouldn’t affect his work.
OK, I hereby officially roll my eyes at the GOP on this one.
Hey guys, remember Clinton and Lewinski? We all called for Bubba Clinton’s head on a plate. Our mantra was “Character Matters”
Well, guess what. It still matters. You guys are looking like Hypocrites with a capital H.
Look, we Christians are all about forgiving, and that is how it should be. Sanford has some things to work out with his family and God. That IS his personal life and the rest of the world should keep out of it.
BUT.
There are too many GOP’ers on this one sounding a lot like the dems during MonicaGate.
So, here’s a sample press release for you GOPS folks out there:
Mark Sanford committed a sin. We are sure God will forgive him. We pray his family will work things out.
But when Bill Clinton was unfaithful to his wife, we said “Character Matters”
It still matters, and for that reason, we believe Governor Sanford should resign to get his life and family back in order.
Simple, isn’t it? I mean, sticking to one’s principles…

Information overload
Wow, my last post was May 31st. I have certainly let Memphis, etc. languish. I love summer, and the TTH family has been busy enjoying it.
But the other thing I find is that I’m suffering from a different kind of writers’ block. With Obama in the White House and making potentially catastrophic decisions and policies at every turn, I’ve got way too much material to blog on…and I can’t seem to figure out where to start.
Korea. Iran, the debacle that may become health care. The bailouts that aren’t working.
So, apologies.
But I have to relate this little bit. If you have followed my blog over the years, you know I like to have a little fun with our fast food workers in the area. However, I may have to eat a little crow. Maybe fast food workers are smarter than I think.
The following picture was taken by me somewhere in Shelby County a week or two ago. My cell phone camera isn’t the best in the world, but if you look closely at the billboard below the sign, you’ll see the following message:
“GLOBAL WARMING IS BALONEY”
It’s been changed now, of course, but for a few moments some right thinking BK worker took a stand against all the BS and hype.

On George Tiller
.
George Tiller was one of the few in the U.S who still performed late term abortions. I know he had a medical degree and license, but I just can’t bring myself to call him a doctor.
Today he was gunned down at a church in Wichita.
I may go a bit over the line for some of you today…but I’m not really sure how I feel about that.
Despite the abortion debate raging, most agree that an unborn child past three months post conception is a viable human being. Therefore, what Tiller did was simply mass murder.
In this country, a citizen may legally use deadly force only to protect his or her own life or the life of another. I’m just going to let the implications of that lie there. It might make for an interesting legal defense.
I personally find it ironic that Tiller had the gall to step foot in a church, but hypocrites do that all the time. One wonders if the shooter picked that place on purpose. Maybe we will find that out.
On the other hand, I do grieve very much for Mr. Tiller’s family. I also grieve for Mr. Tiller’s soul. While I believe in the power of a forgiving God, there was no evidence Tiller was anything other than proud of what he did for a living.
But this isn’t the way we solve issues in America. I certainly hope the gunman acted alone, and was not part of any anti-abortion group.
This is going to open up a huge gaping wound in the American psyche and I am sure a certain president is going to use this to further his agenda.
So, I guess what I’m trying to say is…I’m sorry this happened, but I’m not sorry children’s lives may be saved because of it.

Standing Up.
.
The University of Notre Dame has invited president OBabyKiller to speak at the ND commencement.
Thank God there are still people in this world willing to stand up for what’s right. And they are. Many students are planning to skip the commencement address.
I urge you to go to the ND Response web site and get involved. You who live up that way might think about attending the demonstration, I sure would if I could get there.
Watch the video. Then make your voice heard.

An Open Letter to a Little League Father
.
Hey, it’s your son’s little league coach. I saw you in the stands last game. I heard you as well.
Yes, I know your son is a little uncoordinated, and doesn’t quite get the rules of the game. In fact, he’s downright geeky. I can fix that, but it will take a little time. What I and the other coaches are having trouble with is fixing the incredible lack of confidence and self-esteem you have cultivated in your son.
I don’t know if he’s in this league because he wants to be or because you are trying to live your life over again through him, but you know what? He just may not be the next Babe Ruth. He might not even WANT to be. He may have another calling, and just because you succeeded (or failed) in the sport doesn’t mean he has to be something YOU want him to be. Then again, if you stop putting him down every time he touches the ball, he might turn out to be a good ball player. Who knows?
Oh, and another thing: People do dumb things, but that doesn’t make them dumb. I’m sure hearing you scream from the stands what a stupid play he just made is one of those childhood memories he’ll cherish…or maybe not.
I'm not sure I understand why, but your son loves you. I can see him watching and listening to you instead of us during the game. He wants your approval so bad he can taste it…but nothing seems to be good enough for you
My years of experience being a police officer has given me a load of patience…but this last game it was all I could do not to get in your face and tell you to either encourage your son or STFU. I looked for his mother and just as I suspected, she was huddled over on the side of the bleachers, not daring to come to her son’s defense. I’m sure you’d put her in her place quickly, you being the absolute master of the house and all.
Maybe you missed it, but he made a couple of really good plays today. You didn’t say one word about it after the game to him, but you railed at him about the ones he bobbled…so you MUST have missed the good plays…Right?
Hey, but never fear. Your son is getting to that age where he will find his own path to acceptance. He’ll end up with friends like Mary Jane, and Jack Daniels. They will accept him, and take away all that pain. They won’t make him feel stupid. In fact, they will numb him out so nicely that he will visit them regularly. Then one day if he doesn’t kill himself, he’ll deal with me or one of my co-workers on a professional level. We’ll call you and tell you that he’s been arrested or hurt (or worse), and it still won’t sink in why. In fact, you’ll probably tell him he’s stupid. Again.
But I’ll let you in on a little secret. Your son is being brainwashed when you are not watching. We’re feeding him that positive encouragement coupled with responsibility and work ethics. Really subversive stuff. I ran him all over the field at practice last week while you were at work…then I told him it was because I thought he could really play this game and I was going to help him step up and do it. You should have seen his face light up. It was really something, but I’m pretty sure you don’t see it very often.
So, “Dad”, despite your far too common brand of parenting, we’re working on your son a bit. The season’s too short to do anything but plant some seeds of encouragement in his young mind and pray to God to make them sprout. You can help. Either leave your ego at home and say some positive things to your son from the stands this week or stay home.
